About Craftin - Alasdair (Ali) Robb
Craftin is your go-to handyman service for Perthshire—reliable, skilled, and backed by more than twenty years of practical, hands-on experience across a wide range of trades.
I started out in climbing wall construction, working with steel, timber, and GRP, often at height using rope access techniques. While serving as a firefighter in Edinburgh, I also spent three years working part-time with a traditional stonemason, helping to restore historic buildings and gaining invaluable experience in heritage craftsmanship. Other notable restoration work includes painting contracts on the Tay Rail Bridge.
In 2009, I trained in wooden boatbuilding at the International Boatbuilding Training College in Lowestoft, graduating with distinction. That launched a career building and repairing everything from small wooden boats to large ocean-going vessels, both in the UK and abroad. I worked with wood, aluminium, steel, and composites, and maintained systems including plumbing, electrics, propulsion, and navigation.
Later, I moved offshore to carry out subsea inspections using ROVs (remotely operated vehicles), expanding my skillset into computing, networking, AV systems, and complex project management—fitting in domestic building work and campervan conversions along the way, both personal and commercial.
Now, with a young family and roots in highland Perthshire, I’ve launched Craftin—a fully insured, trade-certified handyman service focused on quality, trust, and versatility.
If it needs doing, I’ll get it done.
